Winter Weddings

Winter Weddings

The first thing that comes to mind with winter weddings is the cold, wet, dark weather. The days get shorter and it gets dark earlier.  So what about my photos, you might wonder!  Well, you might be surprised with how much we can get taken outside.  Even on the worst days, it’s nearly always possible to grab a few minutes to get a few pictures outside.  The winter skies can be really dramatic and with the use of portable lights, it’s possible to get some great shots as it gets darker.  And some venues will have a nice  area indoors that can be used in the event of rain. Take a look at the photos in the gallery below – with the exception of one wedding (which I’ve included to show indoor shots), all of these weddings took place between November and February.

Ballintubber Abbey & Belleek Castle

Who doesn’t want to have a fairytale wedding in a romantic Irish castle? Along with Ballintubber Abbey, Audrey and Philip chose this beautiful venue for their big day.  Belleek Castle was recently voted one of the top 100 best wedding venues in Ireland  by One Fab Day.  Along with its 19th Century Neo-Gothic style, its  amazing banquet hall and medieval themed room with a large open fire, it is a magical spot.  We started off with Audrey at Belleek Castle,  then headed off to Ballintubber Abbey to meet up with Philip for the ceremony.  Ballintubber is celebrating 800 years in existence this year.

Castlecourt Hotel Wedding

This is a wedding from last summer in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport.  I know we’ve shared some of this before, but it’s so beautiful, I couldn’t resist adding some more here.

Colette hails from Shrule, Co. Mayo.  Gerald grew up in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and the couple met in Marino College in Dublin where they were studying to be teachers. He was a post grad and Colette was in third year. They became friends but it wasn’t until a few months after they graduated that they started going out. They were both still living in Dublin.

A few years later, the couple  got engaged on a short break away in Carihuela, Spain. He had picked out the ring by himself and had taken it with him. The whole thing was a fabulous surprise for Colette.

They organized the wedding for July 18th 2014. Colette had no trouble in finding her dress. “I stumbled upon it when I was on Belladonna Bridal’s Facebook page one day, and fell in love with it straight away. I messaged them and arranged an appointment. I knew it was the one as soon as I put it on. I tried on some more dresses in a few boutiques in Dublin, but nothing compared”.

Colette asked her sister Sheila Flaherty to make her wedding cake. “Although she had never actually made a wedding cake before in her life, I knew from other cakes she had made, that she was more than capable. I was right, I have never seen a more amazing cake than the wedding cake she made me”.

Colette woke up to heavy rain on the morning of our wedding. “I had no child of Prague to put out the night before, so that morning I made a deal with him; if he stopped the rain I’d buy a statue of him. As soon as I left for the church, the rain stopped and the sun came out!”

The couple  got married in St. Joseph’s Church in Shrule, Co. Mayo. It’s a beautiful church in the village where Colette grew up, and it is where she always wanted to get married. “Our reception was just lovely. It was in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport. We had a perfect day!”

Colette & Ger went to Mexico on our honeymoon and stayed in an adults only all inclusive resort in Secrets Maroma. “There are loads of restaurants and a show each night either on the beach, the theatre or by the pool. It is about forty five minutes from Cancun and is just heaven! We also went to Florida and visited some of the theme parks”.

Gerald and Colette are living in Killester in Dublin and couldn’t be happier. He teaches in Belgrove Boys school in Clontarf and Colette teach in Scoil Bhride JNS in Donaghmede. “I have bought the child of Prague statue and he now sits in my sacred space in my classroom. Each time I see him I smile!”

What a lovely story!

McWilliam Park Hotel Wedding

Lynn & Matthew were married on a glorious sunny day in July.     The ceremony was held in Lynn’s hometown of Milltown, Co. Galway.  We met Lynn  at a wedding fair in the McWilliam Park Hotel and we were delighted when she and Matt booked us for her wedding photography.  On the morning of the wedding we started off early as always with the preparations in the brides house.  We got some lovely shots of Lynn and her family and bridesmaids. Little Mikey was great in front of the camera and posed no bother for us – what a cool little dude!  Then it was off to the Church to meet up with the boys.  Matthew and Mikey looked very James Bond-ish in a 3-wheel car – but just in case there was any danger of looking too cool we then went across the road to the playground for a go on the swings!  After that, back to Lynn’s house to capture the bride in her beautiful wedding dress all ready to go.  We took bridal party shots in the park in Milltown after the ceremony and then it was off to Claremorris and The McWilliam Park Hotel for the wedding celebrations. (Click on the images below to view each one in a bigger size).  Thanks Lynn, Matt and Mikey for choosing us to be part of your special day.

Mulranny Wedding

Irene & Tim’s Mulranny Wedding.

Irene & Tim were married in the beautiful rugged coastal town of Ballycastle, Co. Mayo, home to the famous Ceide Fields.  The reception was held in the stunning location of Mulranny Park Hotel where the guests were entertained by the excellent wedding band Oddity.  Corina certainly put everyone through their paces as you can see from the photos!

We enjoyed the great company of John Murphy  of Avalon Video on the day.
