This is a wedding from last summer in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport. I know we’ve shared some of this before, but it’s so beautiful, I couldn’t resist adding some more here.
Colette hails from Shrule, Co. Mayo. Gerald grew up in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and the couple met in Marino College in Dublin where they were studying to be teachers. He was a post grad and Colette was in third year. They became friends but it wasn’t until a few months after they graduated that they started going out. They were both still living in Dublin.
A few years later, the couple got engaged on a short break away in Carihuela, Spain. He had picked out the ring by himself and had taken it with him. The whole thing was a fabulous surprise for Colette.
They organized the wedding for July 18th 2014. Colette had no trouble in finding her dress. “I stumbled upon it when I was on Belladonna Bridal’s Facebook page one day, and fell in love with it straight away. I messaged them and arranged an appointment. I knew it was the one as soon as I put it on. I tried on some more dresses in a few boutiques in Dublin, but nothing compared”.
Colette asked her sister Sheila Flaherty to make her wedding cake. “Although she had never actually made a wedding cake before in her life, I knew from other cakes she had made, that she was more than capable. I was right, I have never seen a more amazing cake than the wedding cake she made me”.
Colette woke up to heavy rain on the morning of our wedding. “I had no child of Prague to put out the night before, so that morning I made a deal with him; if he stopped the rain I’d buy a statue of him. As soon as I left for the church, the rain stopped and the sun came out!”
The couple got married in St. Joseph’s Church in Shrule, Co. Mayo. It’s a beautiful church in the village where Colette grew up, and it is where she always wanted to get married. “Our reception was just lovely. It was in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport. We had a perfect day!”
Colette & Ger went to Mexico on our honeymoon and stayed in an adults only all inclusive resort in Secrets Maroma. “There are loads of restaurants and a show each night either on the beach, the theatre or by the pool. It is about forty five minutes from Cancun and is just heaven! We also went to Florida and visited some of the theme parks”.
Gerald and Colette are living in Killester in Dublin and couldn’t be happier. He teaches in Belgrove Boys school in Clontarf and Colette teach in Scoil Bhride JNS in Donaghmede. “I have bought the child of Prague statue and he now sits in my sacred space in my classroom. Each time I see him I smile!”
What a lovely story!
